The generous sponsorship received from AMIEU, XStrata Copper and Queensland Country Credit Union resulted in the purchase of the Lifepack 12 Cardiac Monitor and Defibrillator.
The Lifepak eliminates the need to use in-hospital defibrillators which are much larger and bulkier. This lifesaving piece of equipment is specifically designed to be carried in the Air Retrieval Helicopter.
1 in 3 patients admitted to the Townsville Hospital are from areas outside 100km, so the monitor is of great benefit to the Air Retrieval Team.

PACS (Patient Archiving Communication
System) Monitor

The continued support of the AMIEU Meat Workers made the donation of the PACS Monitor possible.
This important piece of technology will be utilised in the Emergency Fast Track Area. The PACS monitor allows all XRay images to be viewed on a computer monitor instead of traditional XRay film.
This allows the image to be viewed anywhere in the hospital (allowing efficient referral to specialist units) and across various QHealth facilities which are linked in to the system. The images can be modified on the monitor to enlarge, change brightness of image, enable close-up viewing of parts of the film etc, and previous examinations of the patient can also be viewed for comparison, as well as eliminating the scenario of the “lost XRay”.
It also allows an opportunity for patients to view their XRay images in proximity to the bedside, which is particularly important when caring for children (approx 25% of overall patients), many of whom present with injuries and are treated in the Fast-Track Emergency Area.

Lounges for Medical Floor Discharge Lounge
The purpose of the Medical Floor Discharge Lounge is to assist with bed management by increasing the efficiency of bed allocations for patients being admitted from the Emergency Department to the MAP Unit and the Medical Wards 1, 2 & 3.
This is a new area which has been in great need of some pieces of furniture to enhance patient comfort.
The Discharge Lounge expressed their need to purchase six health chair recliners, which will be used by waiting patients with varying needs including, post By-Pass Surgery, Palliative Patients, elderly patients and patients awaiting inter-hospital transfers, who clearly need the comfort of these approved chairs.
The Townsville Hospital Foundation were pleased to provide this area with a grant for the purchase of these recliners.
